Dr. Susan A. Bryan, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC

I am a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and board-certified Family Psychiatric–Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). I see child, adolescent and adult patients for various mental health concerns. I earned my Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Family Psychiatric–Mental Health from Gonzaga University in 2007 and my Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Chatham University in 2014.

I have more than 19 years of experience practicing as a psychiatric nurse practitioner in Anchorage, Alaska. After relocating to Alaska in 2007, I spent 16 years with Southcentral Foundation at the Behavioral Health Fireweed Clinic, where I provided comprehensive outpatient community mental health services. In 2008, I established a part-time private practice in Eagle River, which relocated to Anchorage in 2023. In 2024, I transitioned to full-time practice with Empowerment Mental Health.

Overall, I bring more than 26 years of experience in the mental health field, with clinical expertise spanning a broad range of psychiatric settings and populations. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, I worked as a registered nurse in Boise, Idaho, serving on Psychiatric Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) and Mental Health Court teams, as well as on child, adolescent, and adult inpatient psychiatric units. Earlier in my career, I worked as a psychiatric technician in acute and residential child and adolescent programs and adult inpatient psychiatric settings.

These diverse clinical experiences, combined with advanced education and extensive practice, have provided me with a strong foundation in psychiatric and mental health care across the lifespan. My professional background reflects a longstanding commitment to providing comprehensive, compassionate, and evidence-based mental health services.
